The Port of Denia

Der Hafen von Dénia.

The Port of Denia is a port with many years of history behind it. It has always been a point of interest for the different occupants of the Iberian Peninsula. Its importance is due to its location and geography, since Denia in its antiquity had a natural harbour and it was not until years later that it began to be perfected, even becoming one of the most important pirate ports in the 15th century. But not so long ago, in the 19th century, Denia became one of the most important cities in the export of sultanas.

In the port of Denia we find the northern breakwater of the city, so the port is divided between the coastal area and the breakwater area. This breakwater protects the port from storms and strong waves.

In the port of Denia we find the Posit de Denia, a place where the fish arrives for the people on foot after the innkeepers have bid in an auction for the recently caught fish. Fresh fish will be available from 17:00 in the afternoon, once the fishing boats arrive at the port of Denia.

In the port of Denia there are different leisure activities to do, on the one hand we find all kinds of restaurants, bars, beach bars, restaurants and cafeterias. Besides the restaurants, there is a discotheque, a chill out area and a high terrace with music.

In addition to these activities, in the port of Denia we also find the option of renting jet skis with or without licence.  You can also rent boats to go for a ride or practice sea fishing, always outside the nature reserve.

In the port of Denia we can also find the hippies’ flea market, a craft market where we can find necklaces, bracelets, dresses, decorations, souvenirs, etc.

The port of Denia is home to the Balearia ferry station. Balearia is a shipping company that offers trips to the Balearic Islands as well as other destinations of interest for visitors to the city.

Given its privileged location, the port of Denia has become one of the most important ports on the Spanish Mediterranean coast. of the Spanish Mediterranean coast.

One of the main routes to the Balearic Islands departs from here, used every year by thousands of people and for which Baleària has an absolute monopoly.

Here we find the old fish market building, recently converted into a maritime museum, which is definitely worth a visit.

We can also make a stop at the fish market, where, if we go at the right time of day, we can witness the fish auction. It really is worth seeing, a living history of our tradition.

Besides, it is the base of an imposing fishing fleet that day after day allows us to enjoy the products that our fertile sea offers us… and yes, we do not forget to mention that one of these is the world famous (and not cheap) red prawn of Denia.

It is really pleasant to stroll along its shore, enjoying the sea breeze and aromas, the gentle rocking of the boats… Thanks to our enviable climate we can enjoy these pleasures all year round.

It is made up of a multitude of stalls where there is a varied offer of handmade products (and others not so much) from all corners of the world. Just for the pleasure of browsing is worth the walk.

In the summer season you can also take in a fair like the usual ones: with its bumper cars and tombolas… perfect to go with the family.

The whole length of the port is dotted with tapas, rice and seafood restaurants… most of them excellent and a must if you have worked up an appetite after visiting the fish market.

Parking in the port of Denia

When it comes to parking in the area, there are two paying car parks with large capacities. Given that the port of Denia has a large influx of people, they are a good option to find parking. One car park is located in the northern area and the other in the southern area of the port of Denia.
